Webster's Encyclopedia
dictionary gives the definition of GROTTO as follows: "a cave, a vault, natural
recess of a cavity in the Earth; an artificial structure or excavation made to resemble a
cave or cavern." This is exactly what the GROTTO is not.
Certainly the definition Webster gives does not apply in this case to the
great order.
The Grotto
The Mystic Order of Veiled Prophets of the Enchanted
Realm, whose subordinate bodies are the GROTTOES, is an organization by and for
Master Masons.
While in no way connected with Masonry proper, it's membership is restricted absolutely
and exclusively to Master Masons in good standing. Although it is an organization for good
wholesome fun and frolic, it also has its serious side. It's slogan is GOOD FELLOWSHIP,
and in contact with our fellow man, this principle is exemplified to a marked degree.
